Herculian

There will be tasks
several at a time
worth every dime
none will be more worth
than the task
of winning your mind
again and again

Crikets

There are crickets in the tin cup
Two or three crickets
stridulating in the tin cup
its too loud for just one

There is no light
The tin lamp is out
Kerosene spilled
and put out the light
it spilled from  a knee-jerk reaction
trying to uncover the tin cup
the tin cup with two or three crickets
stridulating

You can hear their wings rub
you just wont see,
for there is no light
and besides the crickets are covered by the tin cup

Dear Landlady

Dear Landlady
I sent part rent
the rest will be late
but before the twenty eighth
Its a short month
you keep the faith

Dear Landlady
please bring back my pail
my towel, and mama she's veil
you did get part rent
and you know the rest will be late
before the twenty eighth
of this short month
so keep faith

Dear Landlady
cut down the broadcast
and gossip that's scripture laced
you need not justify the hate

I'm certain I sent part rent
with a late note for the rest
just not twenty eighth late
where is your faith??

Two minutes to midnight

Two minutes to midnight,
I will not be going home tonight
I have no home
Feet swollen and smelly
Socks clammy and stinking
I miss my girl
She won’t sleep next to me
I won’t hear her bother me
Breaking into play
Digging her feet into my ribs
Punctuating that with attention cries

Two minutes to midnight
Cold toes on a cold tiled floor
I could wear socks
But how will I wash them?
I could wrap a blanket
But the guard is peeping curiously
Who owns an office and sleeps at work

Two minutes to midnight
Six hours to daylight
To peppered face and brushed teeth
To clean clothes and new muse
To daybreak

If anything..

Ma & Pa
If anything
It’s like getting on the lift
Just before the doors close behind
Like little puddles of warm salty water
Rushing between the toes
I won't just have enough of the beach
As you walk the stretch of the ocean floor
Like the sound of crushing waves
Hitting the continental shelf
And the silenced voices drowned
Lost in the search of self
It’s the sensation of taking off fitting shoes
Or the whiff that hits the nose at the door
That whiff that can only be mama’s cooking
It’s a cold Fanta going down the throat
On a dry windy and hot day
Or the spreading of quink
From a blot on a kasuku brand page
It’s slow
It’s captivating
It’s overwhelming
It comes like a rush
From the fingertips to the lobes
To the heel
And the toes
The nape of the neck
It’s inexplicable
If anything
It’s the knowledge that comes from knowing;
Gentleness; perching a chick in your palm

You did well

your woman: myqueen. A response to the poem 'Betrothed then Betrayed By Oyoo Mboya'

This poem is a response to a poem I read by Oyoo Mboya I will post the original first then the response.

ORIGINAL:

BETROTHED then BETRAYED.

Tomorrow at dusk
She'll be in your arms
Her face behind a mask
Read the pattern on her palms.

Tomorrow at dawn
The priest will declare her your wife
Uncover the veil, beneath the smile
there's a frown
You are not what she wants in life.
Tomorrow at noon
You'll feed from the same plate
A (g)olden honeymoon
That seals your fate.
Brother,
Before she became your bride
I plucked her petals, still tender
In the journey to womanhood, I was
her guide.
Her body is scented with my stench
Kiss her and you'll taste my lips
Feed and wait to hear her belch
There's a name in her hiss.
Look deep into the fires of her eyes
The blaze that burns to blind
Do you ever care to ask why
She's one of a kind?
Dust her bosom for my fingerprints
The contours I caressed to break
The stains on her thighs
Are of pregnancies we longed to
make.
She'll cook, just like I taught her
In bed, my name will feature
I am her eternal star
Her past, present and future.

®Oyoo Mboya.

RESPONSE:

Photo|Courtesy

This are but tales you tell to satisfy your hungry past
You made a woman from a girl
that much I agree
But you remain a boy
Your words betray your ploy

Of the stains she's cleansed
Washed by the product of my loins
The hissing was quelled; she has just graduated
with a doctorate of the diploma you so graciously accorded her
I should thank you
for all the callous caresses you politely introduced her to
I could never have asked for an easier time
You are indeed godsent

I admit,
It may take a while to forget you
Its never easy to erase the opposite holotype of everything you are
Meticulous
Astute
Sturdy
Direct
She was a woman when she met me
You made her a woman

She is a queen under my care
An epitome of decorum
A royal diadem of peace
She is patience
Wrapped in royalty radiating love
She is my shield from pain
In her I find much strength

She is a queen
Executive director of the home
Symbol of my kingdom
and flesh of the flesh of my fledglings
Your one-time woman is my lifetime queen
It will take more than memoirs of your lips on hers
More than dusting prints of her thighs and bosom
It will take more than the past
for her to be annulled from this golden throne

Pablo Neruda writes I am not jealous/of what came before me I echo his sentiments.

juvenile delinquent

Life has been unfair to me
This can’t be all I was intended to be
Doesn’t this life hold much more?
Can’t I make it out of this hole?
I am 16 years old

I want new clothes
New shoes
I want a phone!
Why would my parents not provide?

I can find ways to make things work
This nonsense that surrounds me must stop
I am tired of my poverty
I am enraged by my struggles
I shall make it out
By any means

I picked an axe from my neighbor’s farm
I exchanged it for meat and ham
The butcher doesn’t know
Neither does my mum
I need a bigger take
I am 18 years for God’s sake!

I nicked car headlights outside the mosque
Four headlights for thirty smokes
That is a good deal no?
I am making my name hello!
And twenty years that may not be so bad a show

I have just received a briefcase of gold
From a white man who was shaken and old
I stood straight took instructions and strutted out bold
I am a go-between
From me to the big man across the creek
This is the big break I seek
I am twenty two years
My future doesn’t have to look so bleak

I moved up the ladder
Got a gun and I rule wider
I have my own sixteen, eighteen, twenty and twenty two year olds
But I will not live to tell my tale
For at twenty four
I hear the knocks on my mother’s door
I had come to upcountry to lay low
But someone must have mouthed.
For tomorrow I will be no more

I am a thief.

written with a 16yo thief, I encountered to day, in mind. May this 16 year old make better choices before life chooses the sequence for him.

believe and be satisfied

Every one longs to give themselves to completely someone,
To have a deep relationship with another
To be loved fully and exclusively,
But God says NO,
Not until you are satisfied and fulfilled
And content by being loved by me alone,
I love you my child,
And until you discover that only in me is your satisfaction to be found,
You will not be capable of the perfect human relationship that I have planned for you,
You will never be united with another until you are united with me,
Exclusive of any other desires and longings,
I want you to stop planning, stop wishing,
And allow me to give you the most thrilling relationship that exists,
One that you can’t even imagine,
I want you to have the best please allow me to bring it to you,
Keep watching me expecting the greatest things,
Keep experiencing the satisfaction that I am,
Keep learning & listening to the things I tell you,
Don’t be anxious,
Don’t worry,
Don’t look around the things others have gotten,
Or that I’ve given them
Don’t look at the things that you think that you want,
Just keep looking at me or you will miss what I want to show you,
And then when you are ready,
I will surprise you with the love far more wonderful that you will ever dream,
You see until you are ready, and until the one that I have for you is ready,
Who I am working with this very minute as I am working with you,
So to have both of you ready at the same time,
Until l you are both satisfied exclusively with me,
And the light have prepare for you,
You will not be prepared to experience the love that I have for you,
Based on your relationship with me,
And this is perfect love.
And dear one I want you to have the most wonderful love.
I want you to experience, a relationship with me,
And to enjoy the everlasting beauty and perfection in love that I offer,
Know that I Love you utterly I am your heavenly Father,
Believe and be satisfied.

not all posts have titles

...and I saw life like dried leaves
Detached from the branch
Rustling away in the wind
It floated for a while then
Settled on the water surface
The gentle wind carried it to the edge
There it lay
Brown and moistened
Waiting to decay

not every poem makes sense, some are just but glimpses into an uncharted worlds. written during hazy thinking experiment time

reasons

there are reasons,
unidentified reasons,
for which things happen,
they happened in the past seasons,
for unidentified reasons,
they're still happening in the present season,
fro this reason, the flamboyant witty politician,
Tom Mboya is dead,
for this reason, unidentified,Pio Gama Pinto left,

never to return,

for this same reason,J.M Kariuki is dead,
for this reason, unidentified,Robert Ouko is dead and gone,
investigations have been done but no conlcuding report,
for this alleged political reason, still unidentified, the Lion of Mbooni,
the distinguished law maker,Mutula Kilonzo is resting in peace,
for this unidentified reason,Prof. of Mathematics,
George Saitoti is dead,
and for the same mysterious reason,
Hon.O.Ojode also left us,

for this mysterious reason,

former Ainamoi M.P, David Kimutai was shot dead,
for similar reasons, the prominent political figure,
was erased, parmanently from the political picture,
as he was coming from His Dornhorm Home,
for this reason,Alexander Muge is dead,
for this mystrious reason,Chrispin Mbai is dead,
for this reason, unidentified, some are detained without trials,
some are tortured, and left for dead,
for this reasons, we experience extra-judicial killings,
for this mysterious reasons, human beings turn into beasts,
they displace peasant farmers,to build their own projects,
they grab land, for their own selfish gains,
how will you feel,
when the person who raped you,
is the one to rule over your rape case?
those who commit autrocities,
are the ones in the authorities,
for some reasons, which we don't know, these things keep on happening,
I wonder when we will start a new season,
where mysterious deaths are given reasons,
and investigations drawing conclusions

poem written by Ordinary Mind  don't know the date of this politically charged poem but it inspired me.

You

My chief of staff
Diamond
In heaps of chaff
My imperfect princess
One I’m dying to impress
With action
With words
With my souls last breadth

Can’t remember when I wrote this….can’t forget who though. Hmmm…I wrote a lot of poems of love
