Two minutes to midnight

Two minutes to midnight,
I will not be going home tonight
I have no home
Feet swollen and smelly
Socks clammy and stinking
I miss my girl
She won’t sleep next to me
I won’t hear her bother me
Breaking into play
Digging her feet into my ribs
Punctuating that with attention cries

Two minutes to midnight
Cold toes on a cold tiled floor
I could wear socks
But how will I wash them?
I could wrap a blanket
But the guard is peeping curiously
Who owns an office and sleeps at work

Two minutes to midnight
Six hours to daylight
To peppered face and brushed teeth
To clean clothes and new muse
To daybreak

away or toward

two steps towards charring
to burning beyond recognition
still two steps away from brilliance
from beauty and natural elegance
just two steps
In either direction and you chance to lose or gain
win-win?

moonlit sands

It is the rustling of the palm fronds in the wind

It gets me excited
The peeking of the moon through those leaves
oh! This night should last an eternity
I am eager for the dance upon the creek's logs
The sipping of pale white and rank homemade coconut wine
From slender, short wooden  pipes with filters for the filth
Drunk for the company rather than the taste
The anticipated chasing by the guard dogs in the night late
I am giddy
For the night promises so much delight
Like friendships spurred at moments insight
And ending with naked bodies strewn on the beach
Bathing under the moonlight
Ah! We are young the night is young, too early to speculate
