and life keeps laughing at me [IV]

This is a story contributed by talented writers and still in its infancy as more writers continue to make it a Novella. Enjoy my little input. Find the other parts here:

  ....
Angel or demon? Which exactly I’m I to them? And what are they to me? Njeru lay facing up. He turned his head left and right, getting a clear picture of those that stood beside him. He wanted to speak, blurt even, yet the words formed like knot in the throat and tightened as he opened his mouth.
He felt sorry; he had been feeling sorry for the longest time, what with the divorce, reuniting and the uncertainty of rebuilding his career.
“I am sorry,”
“Just rest, we will have enough time to talk,” said Sarah
She gave his arm a reassuring squeeze, then wiped tears from his cheek with her palm.
“It will be alright, I am happy you are alive”
This was comforting and his lips tiredly curved into a smile. He felt hoarse and parched; he couldn’t clearly recall his last meal. He tried to remember, playing his memories like a vhs tape in the head. Then it hit him, like a lightning bolt on a rainy day. He shot up in bed and motioned for Mutiso to come closer. The plain ran through him and he clenched at his teeth keeping it at bay.
“What day is it?” He asked
“It is Wednesday Baba Junior,” replied a visibly surprised “Kwa nini?”
He shifted his gaze to Mutiso and asked
“Dexter! Have you seen my Dexter?”
“I picked him from the seat, I figured it must have been why you came to see me.”
“Angel! Confirmed, you are an angel.’
“What?” Asked Mutiso
“Never mind, I have a few instructions for you regarding Dexter”
He spoke for about a minute uninterrupted giving a brief synopsis of the problem at hand. He also explained to Mutiso that he had until the close of business hours to have the required photos for the competition. It was now fifteen past midday; giving Mots about four hours to perform a miracle. It was not going to be an easy task, and it had been made harder by the fact that Dexter also took a beating in the crash. Mutiso had been tactful enough to avoid making mention of this as he wanted to maintain the feel-good mood of his friend. He shook his hand and wished him luck then turned to leave.
Njeru pulled him back and said
“No, you go with that luck I have all the luck I need with me here.” He pointed at his wife who had been silent and smiled.

Desire vs Imagination: I'm I foolish to keep on hoping?

“When your desires and your imagination are in conflict, your imagination always wins the battle.”  Emile Coue

I longed to find the one
just one
I longed to sit and share moments of what I was
of what I would become
I longed to have another by my side
that was my desire
then I found one
the one
I thought she had another
and another
for I never felt like I mattered enough to her
for her
I was always looking to see her part
that was my imagination
I sat alone again
and hoped that she would take my plea
my begging my requests
I changed my imagination
centered on my desires
it was late too late
it started with no we cannot keep this up
it ended in "never! This can NEVER be"
and now the imagination won
I have to content with this state
at least until I know my fate
I longed to find the one
and even when I had her within my reach
I let my imagination win
but my desires still burn me inside
they nudge me
they prod me
this desires have a mind of their own
tell me I'm I a fool to keep on hoping?

naked banana

I found it where I seldom searched
In between worlds
Expectancy and a lady with a spanner
It was the words
Then the recollection
I needed no other invite
I was completely naked
Bereft of spirit
Of fight
Of escape
I could have run
I choose instead to stay
I felt like a banana out of its skin
With a bitter taste within
Like I had regurgitated it from my spleen
I was naked and excited
For it had been almost 8 years searching
Just trying to figure out what this was
That was
Those were
I felt like Columbus on his final voyage
It was definitely a Eureka! ala Archimedes
It was exciting
It was confusing
It was convicting
As naked as a banana out of its skin
I took a bite
This I want to see
What really lay within…..

10,000 trials with faith

I have not failed. I've just found
10,000 ways that won't work.
-Thomas A. Edison

Ten thousand times I tried and failed
Ten thousand ways I learned to perfect
Then the first from ten thousand
I made my break and everyone said

"oh! how great it is to have your luck, to try and make it on your first buck"

Yet no one noticed the ten thousand flops
For all they could see was the one shiny bulb
Not the thousands of blown up and charred filaments
Not the drawings and concepts that filled the work table
Just the lighting and the bulb that emitted its large warm glow
Ten thousand trials with faith
A single reward of success
Believing till the end
Till the final whistle is blown
Till success is changed from thoughts on a paper to tangible physical matter.

Inspired by Thomas Edison who did 10,000 experiments before, eventually, inventing a working light bulb.

faith

It's lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges, and I believe in myself.

-Muhammad Ali

I stood across the cliff
I watched the birds leap
And the animals make their way
I held on to the ropes
But,
I lacked the faith to take the step
The one step towards my goal
Towards my dream

I stood upon the board
The springy diving board
I watched my peers dive and scream and laugh and splash!
But
I held on to my fears afraid to take the plunge
I took a step back
Then two and I was off my board.

I sat long alone in the room
For I chose to ignore the voices that filled my ambience
The chatter that rented my space
I hid in a corner
Intimidated by eye contact
Unaware of willing listeners
I was inferior
I was insufficient
I was afraid

Then I learnt
I shot me down
It was my faith that starved but my fear that I fed
I was capable
I was ideal
I was brave.
Faith conquered fear
Now I cross my bridge.
Dive the depths
And engage conversation
